Your child is closer to becoming an adult. Learning to manage money is a skill that will be utilized for a lifetime. The earlier you start teaching principles, the more likely your lessons will stick.
Make some decisions:Are you going to provide an allowance for the purpose of teaching financial responsibility or are you going to encourage your teen to find jobs (at home or in neighborhood)? What amount are you going to provide for an allowance? Providing too large of an allowance does not allow your child to prioritize and learn to save. You have watched your baby grow in height but it is not until puberty that you realize just how far your child has come! Your pre-teen is starting to compare the values and lifestyle in your home to the world around them. To demonstrate independence, you may see your teen start to oppose or ignore you. This is an important but difficult rite of passage. Talking over decisions and giving your teen more options may enable them to spread their wings and try out adulthood, while still under your protection.
